Savanna Loco combines the crispness of Savanna Dry with fresh tequila flavor and you get a masterpiece.

Savanna is gluten-free and vegan South African cider that’s known for its crisp, fresh, and well-balanced flavors.

The cider was introduced to South Africa by the Distell Group Limited in May 1996.

In 2016, The brand launched its tequila flavored cider which has come to be a personal favorite of mine.

Savanna Loco’s premium tequila cues are evident on the turquoise bottle label designs, which follow through on the 6-pack shrink-wrap and case trays.

I bought a six-pack (500ml) of this tequila cider for R130 ($8) and only used 1 bottle for this recipe.



What is in Savanna Loco?

Savanna is made from crushed apples grown in the Elgin Valley of the fertile Western Cape Region in South Africa. This iconic clear, refreshing, and dry tasting cider is infused with a fresh taste of Mexico to make Savanna Loco.

Savanna Ingredients

Fermented apple juice, sugar, apple juice concentrate, citric acid, apple juice concentrate (coloring purposes).

The Savanna Loco alcohol percentage is 6.

Making a Savanna Loco Margarita

Ingredients for Savanna Loco Cocktail

To make this light, refreshing and easy to make tequila drink, I used the following ingredients:

  • 1 bottle of Savanna Loco
  • 1/4 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 shot of tequila (Blanco)
  • Salt, for rim
  • Lime, for garnish

You can easily enjoy this cider with a wedge of lemon and a pinch of salt, but I added a few ingredients to make a simple Savanna Loco Margarita with SA’s first tequila flavored cider.


  • 1 bottle of Savanna Loco
  • 1 shot of Tequila Blanco
  • 1/4 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • Salt, for rim (optional)
  • Coarse salt and lime, for garnish


  1. First, rim your glass with salt.
  2. Combine Lemon Juice, Tequila, and Savanna Loco and stir until well-blended.
  3. Pour over lots of ice, garnish with lime.


Multiply the ingredients for an easy batch cocktail.
